PTC Heater Installed On New Energy Vehicles

What is PTC? 

   PTC means car heater in automobiles, which is the abbreviation of "Positive Temperature Coefficient". The engine of a traditional fuel vehicle generates a lot of heat when it is started. Automotive engineers use the engine heat to heat the car, air conditioning, defrost, defog, and seat heating. However, in new energy vehicles, the motor replaces the engine, and the motor generates less heat than the engine during operation; the battery replaces gasoline, and the cells in the battery pack are also extremely sensitive to temperature. A certain temperature environment is required to ensure its safe and effective storage and transformation. Here we only talk about heating. From the perspective of energy conversion, the engine converts gasoline into heat energy through combustion, and heat energy is converted into mechanical energy. Motors convert electrical energy directly into mechanical energy. From the perspective of conversion rate, the engine wastes more energy. Of course, this part of the energy cannot be wasted. When the weather is cold, it can be heated by the air-conditioning system, and the heat generated by the motor is not enough to heat the entire vehicle and battery pack.

But the temperature that the human body adapts to is limited, what should I do?

    Add a "warming air conditioning" PTC to the car.

  Similar to most electric heating appliances, such as rice cookers, induction cookers, air conditioners, etc., PTC also generates a lot of heat by energizing thermal materials such as resistance wires/ceramics to provide the heat required by the vehicle. If one is not enough, add another, or increase the power. The generated heat Q=I²R*T, the current is stable, the greater the resistance value, the greater the power, and the greater the heat generated per unit time; the current is stable, the resistance value is stable, and the longer the time, the more energy is consumed.

   When I was young, my parents often said that the air conditioner used fewer meetings and used more electricity. Similarly, even if we solve the problem of thermal air-conditioning in new energy vehicles, new problems have arisen, and the power consumption is too fast. A car that can run 400+Km can only run a mileage of 200 or even lower. The problem has to be solved, and the automotive engineers have thought of a new method, heat pump technology. In fact, the heat pump is not very new. Its principle is simply understood as "moving hot and cold air out and in", that is, a "porter" of hot and cold air, which makes the temperature reach the ideal temperature and saves more electricity in terms of power consumption ( 20% or more).
