Electric Car Heating Is Too Much Electricity, Teach You Some Tricks

- Oct 21, 2020-

Electric cars are used in the north, and heating is a problem. Heating and cruising range are a contradictory complex

A higher heating power can achieve a good heating effect, and heating power is achieved by consuming electric energy. Wanting to obtain a satisfactory temperature means consuming more electric energy. Moreover, the power of the electric heating wire is limited, about 2-3kw, which is unsatisfactory for heating. But the power consumption is indeed very high, consuming 2-3 kWh per hour. The battery capacity of electric vehicles is limited, and the discharge capacity will be reduced when the temperature is low in winter. Take an electric car with a capacity of 45kwh as an example, the capacity will also decrease when the ambient temperature drops in winter:

When the outdoor temperature drops below -10°C, the battery discharge capacity is only about 70% of 25°C, and the capacity is reduced by 1/3. At this time, turning on the warm air consumes 2-3 kilowatt-hours of electricity per hour, and it is understandable that the cruising range is reduced by half at this time. Turning on the heater further increases power consumption, so if you want to heat up, you can’t turn on electricity.

working principle - 副本

The picture above is the core schematic diagram of the diesel parking heater. Diesel fuel is injected into the combustion chamber through an electronic control nozzle, and the glow plug ignites the diesel fuel. The outer wall of the combustion chamber is equipped with radiating fins. The high temperature generated by the combustion is dissipated by the fins and the air is heated. The fan blows out the hot air to achieve the purpose of heating. The temperature of this heater can be adjusted and the heat is large. When the large truck is used in winter, the cabin can be said to be warm as spring, which is much better than the warm air effect of the original car. Even driving in pajamas does not feel cold.

Because the heat source is obtained by burning diesel oil, the power consumption is not high. The only components that consume electricity are oil pumps and fans. The power consumption is about 40w during operation, and the power consumption is very low. The fuel consumption is related to temperature, which consumes 0.2-0.5L diesel per hour. It can be said that it is very suitable for heating in the car in winter, with low power consumption and low fuel consumption.

But installation involves many problems. For example, the installation of diesel heaters has involved modification, and many trucks have been fined for this. Adding fuel and diesel fuel will also have certain risks. The installation of diesel heating also requires the body to be punched in order to discharge the exhaust gas to the outside of the car to avoid carbon dioxide poisoning of the people in the car. In most cars, the diesel heater is installed at the spare tire and the hot air is transmitted through the pipeline, but there are also certain safety risks, so the modification must be cautious.

Diesel heating is a good way to solve the heating problem of electric vehicles in winter. It would be perfect if the manufacturer heats the diesel directly into the cabin during production! Not only can the heating problem be solved, but also the preheating can be used to heat the battery pack. Nowadays, the battery pack has a thermal management system with coolant. Therefore, the battery can be heated only by heating the coolant, and the discharge capacity of the battery will be restored when the temperature rises. It not only solves the heating problem but also solves the winter battery life problem.
